CSIR SHYAMA PRASAD MUKHERJEE FELLOWSHIP

To commemorate the birth centenary year (2000) of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, who was the first Vice-President of CSIR in the Independent India, CSIR has instituted a special fellowship, namely, “DR. SHYAMA PRASAD MUKHERJEE (SPM) FELLOWSHIP” open to toppers of CSIR-UGC JRF (NET) awardees. The objective of this fellowship is to nurture the budding scientific talent and to nourish the objective of pursuit of scientific research. The scope is for the students pursuing Ph.D programme with a special fellowship in CSIR Labs/other specialized R & D institutions / universities.

Eligibility:

A maximum of 10 SPM Fellowships each in Chemical Sciences and Life Sciences, and 5 each in Earth, Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences will be awarded through interview mode from NET. Candidates in ratio of 1:3 will be called for interview in each subject.

Scholarship Amount Detail:

Stipend: Rs.29000/- + HRA per month during the first two years of the fellowship and a Contingency grant of Rs.70000/- p.a. may be raised to Rs.34000/- + HRA per month from third year onwards on the basis of assessment through interview. May be reverted to JRF (NET), if performance is not found satisfactory.

Duration: Initially for 2 years. Extendable as per normal rules for CSIR JRF (NET) scheme. The maximum tenure of SPM Fellowship will be up to 5 years.

 

 CSIR-NET/JRF (JUNIOR RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP) 

The EMR Division under HRD Group of Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) provide CSIR Research Fellowships and Associateship to bright young men and women for training in methods of research under the expert guidance of faculty members/scientists working in University Departments/Institutes of National Importance/National Laboratories and Institutes of CSIR in various fields of Science & Technology and Medical Sciences. Preference is given to a subject / topic of research relevant to the research programmes of CSIR laboratories and nationally important S&T areas. On-line applications for JRF-NET are invited twice a year on all India basis through press advertisement.

Eligibility:

  • A large number of JRFs are awarded each year by CSIR to candidates holding BS-4 years program/ BE/ B.Tech/ B. Pharma/ MBBS/ Integrated BS-MS/ M.Sc. or Equivalent degree/ BSc (Hons) or equivalent degree holders  or students enrolled in integrated MS-Ph.D program with at least 55% marks for General & OBC (50% for SC/ST candidates, Physically and Visually handicapped candidates) after qualifying the National Eligibility Test ( NET) conducted by CSIR twice a year June and December.  
  • Candidates with bachelor’s degree, whether Science, engineering or any other discipline, will be eligible for fellowship only after getting registered/ enrolled for Ph.D/ integrated Ph.D. programme within the validity period of two years.
  • Candidate enrolled for M.Sc. or having completed 10+2+3 years of the above qualifying examination are also eligible to apply in the above subject under the Result Awaited (RA) category.
  • The upper age limit for applying for the award of JRF shall be 28 years, which is relaxed upto 5 years in the case of candidates belonging to Schedule Castes/ Schedule Tribes/ OBC, Physically Handicapped/ Visually Handicapped and female applicants.

 

Scholarship amount detail:

The stipend of a JRF selected through CSIR-UGC National Eligibility Test (NET) will be Rs 25,000/ p.m for the first two years. In addition, annual contingent grant of Rs. 20,000/- per fellow will be provided to the University/ Institution.

On Completion of two years as JRF and if the fellow is registered for PhD, the fellowship will be upgraded to SRF (NET) and the stipend will be increased to Rs. 28,000/- p.m for the 3rd and subsequent years.

INSPIRE Fellowship programme for pursuing Doctoral Research in Science& Technology 

Inspire Fellowships for pursuing Doctoral Programme in Science and Technology is sponsored and implemented by Department of Science and Technology (DST) to strengthen Scientific and Technological capacity of the country. Inspire fellowships offer standing opportunity to more than 1000 students to pursue Doctoral Research in engineering, medicine, agriculture, veterinary, pharmacy etc. from any recognised University or Institute located in India.

Inspire fellowship programme shall be tenable for a maximum period of five years which will lead to PhD degree in the respective field. During this period each fellow will be entitled to receive a stipend and research grant equivalent to GATE/NET scholarship (JRF &SRF). Applications for Inspire fellowship programme can be made online.

DST follows Two-Tier selection process for selecting Inspire fellows. First, the applications are screened by Internal Committee, and then it is forwarded to Committee of Experts for final selection. While making final selection factors such as academic excellence, choice of supervisor, host institutions and potential of research proposal are taking into consideration.

 

Eligibility

You must comply with following eligibility criterion in order to apply for Inspire Fellowship Programme:

  • Inspire Scholar having scored minimum 65% marks (or CGPA equivalent) in aggregate at M.Sc or integrated M.S./M.Sc
  • First Rank Holder in each Post-Graduate Level Exam in Basic/Applied Sciences including Engineering Sciences, Medical Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Sciences from any UGC recognized University or Academic Institutions.
  • First Rank Holders at Graduate level Exam in Medicine only conducted by a University/institution in India.
  • First Rank should be obtained in a minimum batch size of 10 students in that University Level Examination with minimum 65% marks (or CGPA equivalent) in aggregate of the entire course.

Note: Merely fulfilling the eligibility criterion does not qualify you for Inspire fellowship, the final decision regarding selection of Inspire fellows shall be taken by the committee of experts from DST.

TIFR (TATA INSTITUTE OF FUNDAMENTAL RESEARCH)

Tata Institute of Fundamental Research is a National Centre of the Government of India under the umbrella of the Department of Atomic Energy, as well as a deemed University awarding degree of master’s and doctoral programs. Scholarship amount Details:

Integrated Ph.D.: Students receive a monthly scholarship of Rs. 16,000/-, Rs.25,000/- from second year (enhanced to Rs.28,000/- after registration) and an annual contingency grant of Rs.20,000/- (enhanced to Rs.32,000/- from second year onwards).

Accommodation is provided to Ph.D. and Integrated Ph.D. students at a nominal cost.

 

 Prime minister fellowship scheme for Doctoral Research 

The scheme supports aspiring PhD scholars with double scholarship (up to a maximum Rs. 8.7 lakh per annum, which is slated to increase further soon). 50% of the scholarship is provided by government and balance 50% by a sponsoring industry, for doing research for four years and the research fellow receives PhD degree by doing this industrial research. The maximum duration of the fellowship is 4 years.

Eligibility

Doctoral fellow should have enrolled / admitted for PhD in last 14 months from the date of submission of applications in any recognized Indian University / Institute / Research Laboratory.

Scholarship Amount Details

Fellowship amount of up to Rs. 8,70,000/- per annum per candidate.

50% contribution is by SERB [being equivalent to the prevailing Government norms for JRF/SRF (inclusive of HRA)]. This amount is subject to revision as per the JRF/SRF norms from time to time. Rest 50% (matching equivalent of SERB component) comes from the partner company

Abdul Kalam Postgraduate Fellowship at University of South Florida.

University of South Florida (USF) has announced this fellowship in the honor of Dr. Abdul Kalam who was a great leader and a passionate supporter of clean energy and energy independence. One fellowship will be awarded in each academic year. Fellowship will be awarded to a student who wants to pursue PhD degree in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) programs.

Selection of candidates for Abdul Kalam Fellowship will be made on the basis of exceptional academic record and passion for study in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields of study. Under Abdul Kalam Post-Graduate Fellowship programme the University of Florida will:

Maulana Azad National Fellowship For Minority Students 

Maulana Azad National Fellowship for Minority Students provides financial support to the minority communities students to encouraging them to pursue higher studies such as M. Phil and Ph.D.

Eligibility

  • You must belong to the minority community & must be admitted to an M.Phil./Ph.D. course in a recognised institution. 
  • Prior clearance of NET/SLET examination will not be a prerequisite for award of Maulana Azad National Fellowship for minority students for M.Phil./ Ph.D.

A.) For SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING you will receive:

Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship for Students with Disabilities aims to financially support to physically challenged students, hence encouraging them to pursue higher studies such as M.Phil. and Ph.D.

Eligibility

  • For junior research fellowship (JRF) the candidate must have taken admission in M.Phil./Ph.D. degree course in a recognised institution and have physical disability.
  • For Senior Research Fellowship UGC norms would be applicable.

Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE) invites application from MSc/M.Tech degree holders from any University Located in Kerala for their prestigious KSCSTE research fellowship programme 2016-17. The applicant can choose any one of the 7 subjects listed below and pursue research that will lead him to receive PhD.

  • Student must be of Indian nationality and should not be be more than 35 years old.

Jawaharlal Nehru Fellowships is offered by Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fund open to all students in science as well as humanities. The Fellowship Scheme is a continuing one and there is no last date for submitting applications.
